Yemen Monitor / Newsroom:

The activities of the fourth annual Yemen Advocacy Day in the US Senate and House of Representatives concluded in the US capital, Washington. The event was organized by the Washington Center for Yemeni Studies (WCYS) with the aim of enhancing communication with US decision-makers and shedding light on the most prominent issues related to Yemen.

In a speech during the event, the president of the center, Abdulsamad al-Faqih, emphasized the important role of the Yemeni community in the U.S. in strengthening bilateral relations between the two countries, defending the causes of democracy, good governance, and human rights, as well as supporting efforts to achieve security and stability in Yemen.

The event witnessed direct discussions between the participants and a number of members of Congress, covering issues of immigration and the travel ban imposed on several countries, including Yemen. Additionally, they discussed ways to ease legal restrictions in a manner that considers the special humanitarian circumstances of Yemenis at home and abroad, and how to enhance cooperation mechanisms with Yemeni-American institutions.

The event also served as a platform for dialogue with US policymakers and experts to convey the voice of the Yemeni community, review the humanitarian and political challenges facing Yemen, and explore opportunities for cooperation and direct support for Yemeni organizations and initiatives in the United States.

Al-Faqih explained that the center prepared a set of reference materials and papers on the latest developments in Yemen and the priorities of the current stage, enabling participants to present their views and proposals during meetings with members of Congress.

He stressed that achieving stability in Yemen will reflect positively on the security of the region and international sea lanes, emphasizing the importance of strengthening the partnership between the Yemeni-American community and US institutions to serve mutual interests and support peace and development efforts.
