8 Tons of Spoiled Wheat Seized in Marib, Eastern Yemen

Yemen Monitor / Newsroom:

Field inspection teams from the Marib Governorate Office of Industry and Trade (eastern Yemen) seized nearly eight tons of spoiled wheat unfit for human consumption on Thursday.

The office stated that inspectors carried out a large-scale monitoring campaign that resulted in the seizure of the wheat after it was found to be infested with insects and contaminated with impurities. The wheat was discovered at a commercial flour mill before it could be marketed to consumers.

The office confirmed that an official seizure report had been filed and that the entire quantity of spoiled wheat had been confiscated. The case will be referred to the relevant authorities for legal action against those responsible.

The office added that the inspection campaign also included World Food Programme (WFP) warehouses to verify the quality of food supplies distributed to citizens and ensure they complied with approved weight and quality standards. However, it did not disclose the results of those inspections, despite complaints from some residents alleging that the distributed food was of poor quality.
