Rights Network Condemns the Bombing of Brigadier General Fadl Al-Saidi’s House in Sana’a and Demands His Release

Yemen Monitor/Newsroom:

The Yemeni Network for Rights and Freedoms condemned on Wednesday the Houthi group’s bombing of Brigadier General Fadl Al-Saidi’s house in Shamlan area of Sana’a Governorate, describing the incident as a “new crime” added to the record of violations targeting civilians and their property in areas under the group’s control.

The network said, in a statement, that it had received preliminary information indicating that the bombing targeted the home of Brigadier General Fadl Al-Saidi, who has been detained in Houthi prisons since 2018, amid his continuous detention—according to the statement—without fair judicial procedures or legal justification.

It added that preliminary data indicates that the targeting of Al-Saidi’s house may be linked to his refusal to relinquish his home and property in favor of influential figures loyal to the group.

The network emphasized that the bombing of civilian homes represents a violation of international humanitarian law and an assault on the right to housing and private property, considering that the incident reflects the escalation of what it described as a policy of “revenge and intimidation” against opponents and those who reject the group’s policies.

It deemed that the continuous detention of Brigadier General Fadl Al-Saidi for years without a fair trial, coinciding with the bombing of his house, reveals—according to the statement—the scale of violations in Houthi-controlled areas, and reflects the use of means of repression, coercion, and the confiscation of citizens’ basic rights.

The Yemeni Network for Rights and Freedoms called on the international community, the United Nations, and international human rights organizations to condemn the incident, and to pressure for a halt to violations against civilians, the release of Brigadier General Fadl Al-Saidi and all detainees and forcibly disappeared persons, and to hold accountable those responsible for the bombings of houses and the violations committed against citizens.
