Socotra Electricity: Emirati Company Disabled Generators via Remote Encryption
Yemen Monitor / Newsroom:
The Electricity Administration of Socotra announced a power outage across most areas of the archipelago, stating that the interruption was caused by technical measures linked to the former Emirati operating company, which activated a remote encryption system that prevented the generators from running.
In an official statement, the administration said that the Emirati “Eastern Triangle Company” had placed a shutdown timer and passwords within the generators’ operating systems, preventing local technical teams from restarting them.
It noted that resolving the problem requires specialized engineers to decrypt the systems and restore full control over the power stations.
The administration added that this was not the first such incident, recalling a similar event in 2018 when generators were disabled in the same manner before local authorities intervened to resolve the issue and restore service.
It also confirmed that the Saudi Program for Development and Reconstruction of Yemen has undertaken to dispatch a specialized engineering team to address the malfunction, expressing hope that electricity will be restored within the coming days once the necessary technical procedures are completed.
