Yemen and Saudi Arabia Discuss Supporting Transportation Projects and Developing Aden Airport Infrastructure

The Yemeni government’s Minister of Transport, Abdul Salam Humaid, discussed today, Thursday, with the Saudi Ambassador to Yemen and General Supervisor of the Saudi Development and Reconstruction Program for Yemen (SDRPY), Mohammed Al Jaber, ways to enhance cooperation and support Yemen’s transport sector through new development projects.

During the meeting, the two sides discussed the final arrangements for starting the implementation of several development projects at Aden International Airport, foremost among them the maintenance of the takeoff and landing runway and the completion of securing the air navigation and communication system, ensuring improved air traffic and passenger safety in the near future.

Minister Humaid praised the support provided by Saudi Arabia to Yemen in various fields, valuing the efforts of SDRPY and the King Salman Humanitarian Aid and Relief Centre (KSrelief) in rehabilitating and developing the transport sector’s infrastructure, including airports, ports, roads, and land ports.

The Minister pointed out that the Yemeni government is currently working on implementing comprehensive economic reforms in monetary and financial aspects and encouraging local and foreign investment, aiming to achieve economic recovery and improve public services.

For his part, Ambassador Mohammed Al Jaber reviewed the most prominent projects implemented by the Saudi Program (SDRPY) in Yemen, totaling over 230 projects distributed across 14 governorates and covering seven main sectors, including education, health, transport, agriculture and fisheries, electricity, capacity building, and the rehabilitation of government institutions.

The Chairman of the General Authority of Civil Aviation and Meteorology, Captain Saleh bin Naheed, also gave a presentation on the Authority’s efforts to enhance operational efficiency within airports and develop the capabilities of personnel through local and foreign training programs.

He noted that the Authority is currently working on new projects, including the Authority’s main building, the Aviation Institute, and the Aviation Security Training Center, scheduled for implementation in the coming months.
