The Governor of the Central Bank of Yemen, Ahmed Ahmed Ghaleb, issued Decision No. 6 of 2025, stipulating the relocation of the main headquarters of the Banking Deposit Insurance Corporation from Sana’a to the interim capital, Aden.
This decision, issued on July 16, 2025, reflects the bank’s commitment to enhancing effective management and ensuring the stability of the country’s banking sector.
The decision is based on the laws governing the Central Bank and the Deposit Insurance Corporation, specifically Law No. 14 of 2000 regarding the Central Bank of Yemen, and Law No. 40 of 2008 concerning Banking Deposit Insurance. The decision was made with consideration for the public interest and in response to the current political and economic circumstances.
The decision mandates all relevant authorities to comply with the relocation immediately, with implementation beginning from the date of issuance. It emphasizes the importance of coordination among government institutions to ensure a smooth transition of the headquarters and to strengthen the corporation’s ability to perform its vital functions in the interim capital.
According to sources from the Central Bank, this move aims to unify financial oversight and supervision mechanisms and facilitate communication with relevant parties in the internationally recognized government. This, in turn, is expected to enhance investor and customer confidence in the Yemeni banking system.
