Taiz Police Announce Strategic Plan to Prevent and Regulate Firearm Possession

The Taiz Governorate Police on Sunday announced their strategic plan to prevent the carrying of firearms and regulate their possession. This announcement came during an official event organized by the “Civilians in Conflict (CIVIC)” center, in partnership with security and military authorities, as part of a project to enhance civilian protection.

The event was attended by several security and military leaders, notably Major General Abdulaziz Al-Majeedi, Brigadier General Mansour Al-Akhali, and Engineer Nabil Jamil, alongside representatives from international organizations and foreign embassies. Governor Nabil Shamsan also participated via Zoom.

Governor Shamsan affirmed his full support for the plan, considering it a crucial step towards restoring security and stability. Major General Al-Majeedi emphasized the importance of coordination among relevant agencies for the plan’s success. Brigadier General Al-Akhali explained that the first phase of the plan resulted in the seizure of 45 unlicensed firearms and achieved a crime control rate of 92% during the first quarter of 2025, a 10% increase from last year.

The plan, which has gone through several stages, aims to prevent the carrying of firearms within the city and the governorate’s districts according to a specific timeline. It focuses on legal and professional procedures and supports community partnership to ensure sustainability.
