Fire engulfs shelter of five families in a displaced persons camp eastern Yemen

A fire broke out today, Tuesday, in a shelter for displaced people in Al Sayl camp in Al-Wadi Directorate, Marib Governorate, eastern Yemen.

Local sources said that the fire engulfed the shelter of 5 displaced families in Al Sayl camp in the third sector of Al-Wadi Directorate, while another fire broke in a house of a displaced family in Al-Daleel camp.

The Executive Unit for Managing Displaced Persons Camps said in its latest report that it had recorded 34 fires since January 13, 2024, injuring 4 children.

The number of fires in 2020 was 66, causing the death of 5 people and injuring 12 others, including children and women. The number of fires in 2021 was 102, causing the death of 6 people and injuring 11 others, including children and women.

The number of fires in 2022 was 114, causing the death of 14 people and injuring 19 others, including children and women.

The Executive Unit’s statistics indicate that the number of fires in 2023 was 219, causing the death of 6 people and injuring 22 others, including children and women.
