Yemeni Journalists’ Syndicate Warns of The Deteriorating Health of Detainee Waleed Ghaleb in Houthi Prisons

Yemen Monitor / Newsroom:
The Yemeni Journalists’ Syndicate has expressed deep concern over the serious deterioration in the health of journalist Waleed Ali Ghaleb, deputy head of the syndicate’s branch in Al-Hudaydah Governorate, who has been detained in Houthi prisons in the capital, Sana’a, for more than a year.
In a statement issued on Sunday, the syndicate said that Ghaleb’s suffering is worsening as he continues to be denied the necessary medical care while suffering from diabetes, high blood pressure, and other chronic illnesses.
The syndicate stressed that the continued detention of journalist Ghaleb and the denial of medical treatment constitute a flagrant violation of human rights, domestic laws, and international conventions, placing his life in real danger.
It held the Houthi group fully responsible for his life and safety, and for any deterioration in his health resulting from his continued detention and the denial of medical care.
The statement renewed the syndicate’s call for the immediate and unconditional release of colleague Waleed Ghaleb and urged an end to the targeting of media workers because of their professional activities.
The syndicate also called on the International Federation of Journalists and the Federation of Arab Journalists to intensify their efforts, take urgent action with the relevant authorities, and exert every possible form of pressure to secure his prompt release and ensure that he receives full medical care until he is freed.
