Strict Regulations Introduced to Govern the Operations of Overland Transport Companies Between Yemen and Saudi Arabia

Yemen Monitor / Newsroom:
The General Authority for the Regulation of Land Transport Affairs held an expanded meeting on Sunday in the temporary capital, Aden, bringing together the Authority’s Chairman, Fares Ahmed Sha‘fal, and representatives of international passenger transport companies to discuss the regulation of company operations and the reduction of technical and financial burdens on travelers.
The meeting discussed the need for companies to comply with the circulars and decisions issued by the Authority, particularly those concerning the reduction of burdens arising from passengers’ “excess luggage,” and the prompt completion of procedures for renewing operating licenses in accordance with approved regulations.
The Chairman briefed attendees on the ongoing coordination being carried out by Minister of Transport Mohsen Haidara Al-Amri with the Saudi side with the aim of facilitating international transport and overcoming obstacles facing transport companies at border crossings.
The meeting stressed the prevention of any violations affecting citizens’ rights, adherence to security and safety standards, and the requirement that companies promptly renew their technical licenses and implement the regulations governing overland trips.
The Authority’s leadership listened to proposals from company representatives and promised to study them and submit them to the relevant authorities to address challenges affecting the smooth flow of movement.
The meeting comes amid repeated complaints from travelers reporting congestion at the Al-Wadiah border crossing with Saudi Arabia, as officials seek to enforce safety standards and organize travel through land border crossings.
