Discussions in Hadramawt to Expand WFP Humanitarian Interventions

Member of the Yemeni Presidential Leadership Council and Governor of Hadramawt, Salem Al-Khanbashi, discussed on Sunday in Mukalla with the Deputy Country Director of the World Food Programme (WFP), Al-Rashid Al-Hammad, mechanisms to expand humanitarian interventions and strengthen partnership with the local authority.

The meeting discussed the humanitarian and living conditions in the governorate, ways to provide basic services to internally displaced persons (IDPs) and refugees from Horn of Africa countries, in addition to mechanisms for enhancing food support and social protection programs for the most vulnerable groups.

The meeting emphasized focusing on school feeding projects by supporting and developing school kitchen projects to enhance the stability of the educational process, as well as small-scale projects and productive families to achieve self-sufficiency for beneficiaries.

Al-Khanbashi also called for the necessity of involving civil society organizations and local partners to ensure the sustainability of humanitarian projects.

For its part, the World Food Programme delegation praised the facilities provided by the local authority in Hadramawt, stressing the program’s keenness to develop its humanitarian and developmental interventions to meet the needs of citizens and displaced persons in the governorate.
