High-Level Yemeni–German Meeting Discusses Security, Defense, and Support for Peace

The Chairman of the Presidential Leadership Council, Dr. Rashad Mohammed Al-Alimi, received today, Monday, the Secretary General of the German Ministry of Defense, Nils Schmid, in the presence of Germany’s Ambassador to Yemen, Thomas Schneider. The meeting focused on bilateral relations and ways to enhance cooperation in the security and defense sectors.
During the meeting, President Al-Alimi emphasized the recent reforms in the Yemeni military and security institutions, including the unification of command and the elimination of dual decision-making, describing these steps as essential for strengthening internal stability and combating armed groups operating outside the authority of the state.
The meeting also addressed German and European support for the Yemeni government in protecting international maritime navigation, combating terrorism, and ensuring the security of global supply chains. Al-Alimi explained that the state seeks partnership with the international community to build strong institutions and avoid chaos.
For their part, the German officials affirmed their country’s support for Yemen’s unity, security, and stability, stressing the importance of continued cooperation to enhance the Yemeni state’s capacity to better manage security and humanitarian challenges.
President Al-Alimi also stressed that any progress in the political peace process requires the state’s ability to maintain the option of force, to ensure that the Houthi militias do not exploit any leniency in a settlement process.
