Government Directives to Unify Media Discourse and Prohibit the Use of Any Symbols Contrary to the State

The Minister of Information, Culture, and Tourism, Moammar Al-Eryani, announced the issuance of an administrative circular addressed to the leadership of official media institutions, mandating strict adherence to the parameters of the official media discourse and respect for the state’s sovereign symbols. This comes from a sense of national and media responsibility and in accordance with the provisions of the Constitution and the laws and regulations governing media work, in line with the requirements of the current phase the country is going through.

Al-Eryani explained that the circular emphasizes the need for full compliance with the standards of the official media discourse in a way that reflects the constants of the Yemeni state, preserves its unity and sovereignty, serves the supreme national interest, and strengthens the role of national media as a pillar supporting the state and its legitimate institutions.

The minister stressed the prohibition of using or displaying any symbols, flags, or slogans that contradict the national flag of the Republic of Yemen, or broadcasting any anthem or musical piece as a substitute for the official national anthem, across all state-affiliated media outlets and platforms, in order to safeguard sovereign symbols and prevent any infringement upon them.

Al-Eryani also pointed to the importance of unifying the official media discourse and refraining from publishing or presenting any media content that could be understood as a departure from constitutional references or the legal framework, or that undermines the prestige of the state and its institutions.

He affirmed that media leaders, sector heads, and directors of media institutions bear full administrative and legal responsibility for implementing the provisions of the circular, stressing that any violations will be addressed and the necessary legal measures will be taken in accordance with applicable laws and regulations.
