Armed Tribal Mobilization in Al-Mahra Rejects the ‘STC’ and Demands Empowerment of ‘Homeland Shield’

Yemen Monitor – Newsroom:

Al-Mahra Governorate, in eastern Yemen, witnessed an armed tribal stand on Saturday, rejecting military mobilizations within the governorate and attempts to drag it into conflicts that do not serve its people, as well as attempts to destabilize security—in a clear reference to the military movements of the Southern Transitional Council (STC).

The gathering included sheikhs, notables, social and youth figures from the Kalashat tribes. They demanded respect for Al-Mahra Governorate’s autonomy in managing its civil, security, and military affairs, emphasizing the principle of national partnership and the inclusion of Mahri competencies in state institutions and decision-making centers. This, they argued, would strengthen national trust and achieve social justice.

The tribes expressed their appreciation for the role played by the local Al-Mahra “Homeland Shield” forces in establishing security and stability, demanding their empowerment to fulfill their role within the governorate. At the same time, they valued the continuous support provided by the Arab Coalition countries, led by the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia, to Al-Mahra Governorate and its people in security, developmental, and humanitarian aspects.

Participants confirmed their absolute rejection of any attempts aimed at destabilizing security, inciting chaos, or undermining social peace in the governorate. They stressed the importance of unifying the Mahri stance, protecting Al-Mahra’s interests, and preventing it from being dragged into conflicts that do not serve its people.

The gathering concluded by reaffirming the continued support of the Kalashat tribes for all efforts aimed at keeping Al-Mahra Governorate away from tensions and conflicts. It called on the political leadership to consider the governorate’s unique circumstances and put an end to the marginalization that the people of Al-Mahra have suffered over the past decades.
