Judge at Marib Court: Violations Against Journalists Will Not Go Unpunished

Yemen Monitor/By Abdullah Al-Attar:

Judge Adel Al-Hamzi of the Marib Court affirmed that crimes and violations against journalists will not go unpunished, whether in areas controlled by the Houthi group or in areas under the legitimate government.

In an exclusive statement to “Yemen Monitor,” Al-Hamzi stressed the importance of promoting awareness of “justice and the protection of press freedom, and ensuring the accountability of everyone who commits violations against journalists, without distinguishing between one area and another.”

The judge called on all journalists who have been subjected to violations not to relinquish their legal rights, emphasizing the importance of filing reports and complaints before the Public Prosecution, and raising compensation lawsuits before the competent courts to ensure access to justice and deter perpetrators.

Al-Hamzi said: “These steps represent a clear message to criminals that their crimes will not go unpunished, and that justice will reach everyone who assaults journalists or restricts their freedom.”

The judge pointed to the importance of providing legal support to journalists, noting that many of them lack sufficient legal awareness that enables them to claim their rights before judicial authorities.

Al-Hamzi concluded his statement by saying: “The role of the judiciary will remain central in protecting freedom of expression and enabling journalists to carry out their mission without fear or threat. Promoting justice is the optimal way to ensure a free and responsible media environment.”
