Yemeni Prime Minister Discusses Economic Recovery Support with UAE President Amid Salary Payment Crisis

Yemen Monitor / Newsroom:

UAE President Sheikh Mohammed bin Zayed Al Nahyan received Yemeni Prime Minister Salem Saleh bin Buraik on Friday at Al Shati Palace in Abu Dhabi.

The meeting discussed bilateral relations between the two countries and prospects for their development, as well as the latest developments in Yemen, the government’s efforts to implement economic and service reforms, rebuild state institutions, and the progress achieved in this regard. It also highlighted the UAE’s active support for these efforts across various sectors.

Both sides exchanged views on regional and international issues and the security and economic challenges facing the region. They underscored the importance of strengthening joint cooperation to confront these challenges, and the UAE’s pivotal role in supporting Yemen’s economic recovery plan, government reforms, and opportunities for enhancing economic and investment partnerships.

The discussions also touched on coordinating efforts to confront security threats, particularly the Houthi militia’s attacks on international shipping and regional security, as well as support for restoring the Yemeni state and ending the coup.

Prime Minister bin Buraik expressed Yemen’s appreciation—on behalf of its leadership, government, and people—for the UAE’s consistent and steadfast support throughout different phases. He emphasized that this support has gone beyond political commitments, materializing in vital projects and direct contributions to the national economy and service sectors, in addition to firm positions in confronting the Houthis.

He stressed that the UAE’s support has not been limited to political or humanitarian aspects but extended to infrastructure projects and vital sectors such as electricity, energy, ports, and airports, making it a key partner in the struggle to restore the state and build the future.

Bin Buraik added: “Yemenis will never forget the UAE’s solidarity alongside Saudi Arabia during the most difficult moments, defending their security and supporting their national choices in an existential battle that goes beyond Yemen’s borders to the security of the region and international navigation.”

The Yemeni prime minister also briefed Sheikh Mohammed on the latest national developments and reforms being implemented by the government to improve the exchange rate of the currency and curb inflation, stressing the importance of regional and international support to strengthen these efforts and ease the humanitarian crisis.

For his part, Sheikh Mohammed bin Zayed wished the Yemeni prime minister success in his national duties, affirming the UAE’s steadfast commitment to supporting the aspirations of the Yemeni people for development and stability, and commending the Yemeni government’s efforts in addressing current challenges.

The prime minister’s visit to the UAE comes at a time when his government is facing worsening difficulties, most notably the suspension of salary payments due to revenue shortfalls and cash shortages at the Central Bank in Aden. This economic and humanitarian strain underlines the importance of Emirati and international support to help Yemen through this critical stage.
