“Yemeni Journalists Syndicate”: Houthis Responsible for Abduction of Writer Oras Al-Eryani

Yemen Monitor / Newsroom:

The Yemeni Journalists Syndicate has held the Houthi group responsible for the abduction of writer and poet Oras Al-Eryani, after armed men affiliated with the group arrested him on Monday evening in front of his home in the Sawaan neighborhood of the capital, Sanaa, and took him to an unknown location.

In a statement, the syndicate said it is following Al-Eryani’s disappearance with deep concern, stressing that the Houthis bear full responsibility for his life and safety.

The syndicate called on the de facto authorities in Sanaa to immediately release him and to end the policy of arrests and harassment targeting journalists, writers, and opinion-makers.

It further considered these practices a flagrant violation of freedom of expression and fundamental rights guaranteed by local laws and international conventions.
