Military Warning Against Travel on Desert Roads in Jawf, Marib, and Hadramout

Yemen Monitor / Newsroom:
On Friday, the Yemeni Ministry of Defense and the General Staff of the Yemeni Army issued a warning to citizens and travelers against using the desert and secondary roads connecting the governorates of Jawf, Marib (northeast), and Hadramout (east). They stressed that these are active military operation zones experiencing field movements to pursue terrorist elements and control smuggling and sabotage activities.
A military source informed the Ministry’s website, “September Net,” that units of the armed forces are conducting deployment and sweeping operations in these areas, making them unsafe for civilians and endangering their lives. The source emphasized the necessity of adhering to official and paved roads.
The source also noted that anyone who violates these instructions may face legal accountability, given the escalating warnings against using routes outside security control.
This warning comes at a time of heightened security in border areas and desert roads, following the arrest of the Houthi-aligned tribal leader, Sheikh Mohammed Ahmed Al-Zaidi, at the Sarfait crossing in Al-Mahra governorate, while he was attempting to infiltrate into Oman.
These warnings also coincide with reports of tribal gatherings heading to the outskirts of Al-Mahra governorate to pressure the government into releasing tribal leader Al-Zaidi. A military source from the Ministry of Defense and the General Staff urged everyone to avoid using the desert roads in those governorates for their safety, as they are military operational zones.
