Yemeni Prime Minister: New Tenders Committee is a Pillar for Enhancing Transparency and Preventing the Waste of Public Funds

On Thursday, Yemeni Prime Minister and Minister of Foreign Affairs Shayea Mohsen Al-Zindani confirmed that the newly formed Supreme Committee for Tenders and Auctions represents one of the essential pillars of the government reform program aimed at enhancing transparency, increasing the efficiency of public spending, and preventing the waste of public funds.

This came during his meeting in the temporary capital, Aden, with the chairman and members of the committee, where he stressed the importance of its commitment to the highest standards of professionalism, independence, and integrity, to ensure the soundness of government tender procedures, establish fair competition and equal opportunities, and strengthen trust in the government contracting system, according to the official Yemeni News Agency (Saba).

Al-Zindani said that the formation of the committee comes in implementation of the Tenders, Auctions, and Government Warehouses Law, and within the framework of the government’s plan to reform the public procurement system, improve resource management, and build more efficient and transparent institutions.

The meeting discussed the committee’s work mechanisms during the coming phase, the completion of its organizational structure, and its priorities in reviewing and approving tenders within its jurisdiction, while emphasizing rapid accomplishment, commitment to legal procedures, and the unification of government procurement standards.

For his part, the Chairman of the Supreme Committee for Tenders and Auctions, Jamal Al-Akel, reviewed the committee’s work plan, which includes forming a technical committee, conducting field visits to ministries and governorates, and reforming their tender committees in accordance with standards of efficiency and integrity.
