The UK Maritime Trade Operations (UKMTO) announced on Sunday that a cargo ship was attacked by unidentified armed assailants approximately 30 nautical miles southwest of Al-Hudaidah Governorate on Yemen’s western coast.
In a maritime security advisory, the agency said the vessel issued a distress call after coming under attack but did not disclose further details regarding the identity of the attackers or the extent of the damage.
The agency added that the relevant authorities have launched an investigation into the incident but did not provide information about the ship’s identity or ownership.
UKMTO urged all vessels transiting the area to exercise extreme caution and to report any suspicious activity immediately to the UK Maritime Trade Operations Centre.
