Russia: No Solution to the Yemeni Crisis Outside Comprehensive Dialogue

Yemen Monitor/ Newsroom:

Russia reaffirmed its position supporting the unity, sovereignty, and territorial integrity of Yemen, stressing that ending the Yemeni crisis requires a comprehensive political process based on dialogue among various Yemeni components under the umbrella of the United Nations.

During a UN Security Council session dedicated to discussing developments in Yemen, the Acting Permanent Representative of Russia to the United Nations, Anna Evstigneeva, emphasized that her country views Yemen as a unified state with full sovereignty, and that the Yemeni people alone possess the right to determine their future and shape their country’s political path.

The Russian official explained that achieving sustainable peace requires launching a broad national dialogue in which all political actors participate, including the Houthi group, while taking into account current realities and the existing balances on the ground.

Moscow expressed its support for the efforts led by the UN Envoy to Yemen, Hans Grundberg, aimed at bringing the Yemeni parties to a comprehensive negotiation table, considering that the ongoing discussions regarding the UN roadmap represent an important opportunity to advance the political settlement process and end years of conflict.

On the humanitarian front, Russia welcomed the recent understandings related to the prisoner exchange file, viewing them as a positive step that reflects the possibility of building on common ground between the Yemeni parties, and confirms the continued opportunities for dialogue to address outstanding humanitarian and political issues.

At the conclusion of its statement, Moscow stressed that preserving Yemen’s unity and stability represents a fundamental pillar for any regional or international efforts seeking to achieve peace and end the conflict, emphasizing that a lasting solution can only be achieved through a comprehensive Yemeni consensus involving everyone.
