Yemeni Central Bank Dismisses Rumors of “Archive Fire” and Reveals What Actually Happened

Yemen Monitor / Newsroom:

The Central Bank of Yemen in the temporary capital, Aden, denied on Tuesday circulating news about its archive catching fire, clarifying that the incident that occurred at its headquarters this morning was nothing more than a “minor electrical short circuit.”

In a statement, the bank said the short circuit took place in the building’s garage (car park) and was immediately contained and extinguished by the bank’s security and safety teams, confirming that no material damage or human injuries were recorded.

It explained that the “claims and fabrications” being circulated are completely untrue. The statement noted that “the archive is stored in a secure, completely separate location, equipped with the highest safety and prevention tools, far from the site of the electrical short circuit.”

The bank considered that the “misinformation and incitement campaigns” accompanying the incident are backed by parties that have been harmed by the structural reforms and regulatory measures the bank has recently been implementing.

The statement affirmed that these attempts will not deter the bank from continuing its national duties to dry up sources of tampering and limit illegal practices in the banking sector.

The Central Bank called on media outlets and news websites to exercise accuracy and professionalism, obtain information from official sources, and not be drawn into rumors promoted by those with interests harmed by the bank’s recent measures.
