Supreme Coordination Council: A New Entity to Unify Factions and Components in Hadramawt

Yemen Monitor / Newsroom:
An expanded meeting including leaders of political parties, components, and community groups in the city of Mukalla discussed on Thursday the draft project for establishing the “Supreme Coordination Council of Hadrami Factions and Components,” a step aimed at unifying ranks and formulating a comprehensive political and societal vision for the governorate.
The member of the Presidential Leadership Council and Governor of Hadramawt, Salem Al-Khanbashi, confirmed during his chairing of the meeting that the proposed entity does not replace existing factions but rather seeks to be a coordination framework that accommodates various active groups inside and outside Hadramawt, thereby enhancing paths of security, stability, and good governance.
Participants in the meeting, which was attended by members of the House of Representatives and the Shura Council, stressed the importance of ongoing dialogue to develop the draft project in a way that serves Hadramawt’s national interests.
On the service level, Al-Khanbashi pointed to efforts to secure urgent needs for the electricity sector, noting continued government coordination to connect the eastern governorates to the electricity grid of the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia as a future strategic solution.
Hadramawt is witnessing a sharp polarization and the emergence of many factions and forces seeking to represent the governorate, such as the National Hadramawt Council, the Hadramawt Tribal Alliance, the Hadramawt Council of Elders, and other components.
Since the announcement of a South-South dialogue in Riyadh, the intensity of polarization has increased in Hadramawt in particular and the southern governorates in general, as parties await participation and representation in the dialogue and the formulation of its outcomes.
