Al-Alimi: Hijacking of Ship off Yemeni Coast Coordinated by Houthis with “Terrorist Networks” in the Horn of Africa

Yemen Monitor / Newsroom:

The Chairman of Yemeni Presidential Leadership Council, Rashad Al-Alimi, affirmed on Thursday that experiences in Yemen and the region have proven that betting on “moderation of Iranian behavior” without addressing its expansionist structure consistently leads to further escalation rather than peace.

This came during a meeting between Al-Alimi, along with Council member Mahmoud Al-Subaihi, and the US Ambassador to Yemen, Steven Fagin, to discuss the latest national developments, the path of comprehensive reforms, and the international support required for the Yemeni government to address the humanitarian crisis.

The Presidential Council Chairman pointed out that the Houthi group’s behavior in recent weeks indicates a continued pattern of escalation, whether through maritime threats or coordination with terrorist networks in the Horn of Africa, noting the recent hijacking of a ship off the Yemeni coast as evidence of this.

Al-Alimi considered Iran’s resumption of its hostile attacks in the region further proof that the Iranian regime is an “expansionist and hegemonic project” based on blackmail and chaos management, not a project for peace.

Al-Alimi emphasized the importance of the strategic partnership with the US and Washington’s role in confronting cross-border threats and the destabilizing Iranian behavior.

The meeting reviewed progress in the economic and financial reform path supported by Saudi Arabia, as well as efforts to unify security and military decision-making to enhance the effectiveness of state institutions.
