Hadramawt Discusses Urgent Solutions to Improve Electricity Service as Summer Approaches

Member of the Presidential Leadership Council and Governor of Hadramawt, Salem Ahmed al-Khanbashi, met on Monday with Minister of Electricity and Energy Adnan al-Kaf. The meeting focused on the state of the electricity sector in Hadramawt and several liberated governorates amid increasing challenges facing service stability.

The meeting addressed current generation levels and urgent requirements to keep pace with rising demand, especially with the summer season approaching. Discussions also covered difficulties in securing fuel for power plants, maintenance and rehabilitation needs, and ways to improve grid efficiency and reduce energy loss.

Furthermore, the meeting reviewed plans for new projects, including the establishment of a 100 MW power plant for the Hadramawt coast and a similar one for the governorate’s valley and desert regions. These efforts aim to bolster production capacity and enhance electrical stability.

Al-Khanbashi emphasized the importance of strengthening coordination between the local authority and the Ministry of Electricity to find practical and sustainable solutions. He stressed the necessity of providing sufficient fuel quantities and accelerating the implementation of strategic projects to alleviate the suffering of citizens.

For his part, Al-Kaf noted that the Ministry continues to work with relevant authorities to secure fuel and improve generation capacities, alongside a shift toward introducing new energy sector projects to support service stability in the liberated governorates.

The meeting concluded by reaffirming the importance of adopting urgent remedies as well as medium and long-term plans to advance the electricity sector. It also highlighted the need for joint coordination to ensure service sustainability and quality, while praising the support provided by the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia to the energy sector and its contribution to development and stability efforts in Yemen.
