Yemeni Man Injured by Houthi Landmine Explosion East of Sana’a

Yemen Monitor / Newsroom:
A 50-year-old Yemeni man, Musaad Ali Juhaysh, was seriously injured on Thursday after a landmine exploded while he was herding sheep in Nihm District, east of Sana’a Governorate.
The Shuhood Organization stated that the incident occurred in the Eyhal Ghafeer sub-district, in the village of Baran, when the victim was carrying out his usual daily work to secure a living for his family.
In a statement, Shuhoud for Human Rights held the Houthi group fully responsible for the continued danger posed by landmines in areas under its control. The organization condemned the group’s refusal to clear contaminated areas or provide minefield maps to the relevant authorities.
The organization said that the injury to Juhaysh is part of a recurring and tragic pattern of landmine incidents documented in Nihm District over recent years. It noted that the victims have included unarmed civilians—men, women, children, shepherds, and farmers—who were injured while carrying out their everyday activities in their villages, farms, and along local roads.
The organization concluded by warning that vast areas of Nihm District remain heavily contaminated with landmines and explosive remnants of war. It stressed that leaving these areas without proper surveying, clearance, or effective warning measures continues to pose a serious threat to civilians’ safety and undermines their livelihoods.
