Families Of Shabwa Victims Reject Inclusion of Convicts in Murder Cases in Prisoner Exchange Deals with Houthis
Yemen Monitor / Newsroom:
Families of several victims from Shabwa Governorate (eastern Yemen), along with tribal sheikhs, dignitaries, social figures, and provincial cadres, staged a protest vigil today, Thursday, in front of the Public Prosecution building in the city of Ataq, rejecting any move to include defendants or convicts in murder cases involving sons of the governorate in prisoner exchange deals between the internationally recognized Yemeni government and the Houthi group.
In a statement issued during the vigil, the protesters affirmed that including convicts and defendants—including those involved in assassination operations—in any exchange deals represents a circumvention of the law, a violation of the rights of the victims’ families (blood relatives), undermines the path of justice, and infringes upon the rule of law and the prestige of the judiciary.
The statement called on the relevant authorities to review the prisoner lists and exclude any defendant or convict in criminal cases, emphasizing the need to achieve justice and not allow convicts to evade punishment under the cover of political settlements.
