Yemeni Military Spokesman Warns Over Houthi Escalation: “We Are Ready to Respond, and Iranian Flights Will Not Go Unanswered”

Yemen Monitor / Newsroom:

The official spokesperson for the Yemeni Armed Forces, Brig. Gen. Abdo Mujali, warned of what he described as the dangers of Iran operating direct flights to Sanaa International Airport, which is under the control of the Houthi movement. He called the flights “a blatant violation of Yemen’s sovereignty and a dangerous escalation that threatens the security of the entire region.”

In remarks to the newspaper Asharq Al-Awsat, Majali claimed that the Iranian aircraft that recently arrived in Sanaa transported experts from Iran’s Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC) to help manage military operations alongside the Houthis. He said this support demonstrates Tehran’s continued use of the group as a tool to advance its regional agenda and undermine the sovereignty of the Yemeni state.

Mujali stated that the Yemeni Armed Forces now possess “a high level of combat readiness and strong morale backed by popular support.” He stressed that the military remains committed to defending the country’s sovereignty, protecting its airspace and border crossings, and strengthening coordination among its various units under a unified military command.

The military spokesman also claimed that the Houthis have carried out large-scale troop mobilizations in Al-Hudaidah Governorate and along the western coastal front, including the construction of new fortifications and trenches near front-line positions.

He further alleged that Houthi forces recently attacked government military positions in the Hays District, resulting in soldiers being killed and wounded.

Mujali accused the Houthi movement, with what he described as direct backing from Tehran, of continuing to reject peace initiatives and undermining all regional and international efforts to end the war. He held the group fully responsible for the ongoing humanitarian and economic deterioration facing the country.
