Yemeni Shura Council Condemns Houthi Threats to Saudi Arabia and Calls for Deterrent International Action

Yemen Monitor / Newsroom:

The Yemeni Shura Council condemned the escalation and threats issued by the Houthi group against the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia, considering them an extension of what it described as the group’s “hostile behavior” and a “undermining of peace efforts” in Yemen and the region.

In a statement, the Council said that these threats reflect—in its words—”the Houthis’ link to the Iranian project,” and their continued use of state capabilities and ports under their control to serve foreign agendas, thereby threatening Yemeni sovereignty and affecting regional security.

The statement noted that since its takeover of Sana’a, the Houthi group has “thwarted” various regional and international initiatives aimed at ending the war, including efforts led by the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia to reach a comprehensive political settlement that would end the humanitarian crisis in the country.

The Council accused the Houthis of military escalation and targeting maritime navigation and international trade, which it said contributed to worsening the humanitarian and economic crisis inside Yemen, and causing damage to infrastructure, ports, airports, and service facilities.

The Shura Council emphasized that the threats directed at Saudi Arabia are not limited to its national security, but rather represent—according to the statement—a threat to Arab, regional, and international security, calling on the international community to take “practical and deterrent” steps instead of relying solely on condemnations.

The Council also praised what it described as the “pivotal role” of the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia in supporting the internationally recognized Yemeni government, assisting the Yemeni people, and its continuous efforts to achieve peace and stability.

The statement held the Houthi group and the Iranian regime fully responsible for the repercussions of the escalation, calling on the United Nations, the Security Council, and international partners to tighten oversight on sources of funding and arming, and to prevent the use of Yemeni territory for any activities that threaten regional and international security.
