Number of Displaced Persons in Yemen Rises to Over 7.5 Thousand Since Early 2026

Yemen Monitor/ Newsroom:

The number of internally displaced persons (IDPs) in Yemen since the beginning of this year has risen to more than 7.5 thousand people, according to the latest data released by the International Organization for Migration (IOM), which indicated that displacement waves are continuing despite a decline in pace during the last week.

In its weekly report, the organization explained that the period between June 21 and 27 witnessed the displacement of 39 families, comprising 234 individuals, bringing the total number of displaced persons since the beginning of 2026 to 1,261 families, totaling 7,566 individuals.

The report showed that the number of families displaced during the past week decreased by about 30 percent compared to the preceding week, during which 56 displaced families, consisting of 336 individuals, were recorded.

Taiz Governorate received the largest share of new displacement cases, with 17 families representing 44 percent of the total, most of whom came from the Aden and Abyan governorates. Meanwhile, Marib received 14 families, and Al-Hudaidah recorded the displacement of eight families within the governorate itself.

The report pointed out that financial needs topped the priorities of the displaced families, with nearly half of the families reporting a need for cash assistance, while 31 percent requested the provision of shelter, and 18 percent requested food assistance, while a limited percentage expressed a need for livelihood support.

The organization attributed the recent wave of displacement primarily to natural disasters, which forced 18 families to leave their areas, followed by conflict-related economic conditions, which caused the displacement of 15 families, while six families left their homes due to security concerns.

Conversely, the IOM’s Displacement Tracking Matrix (DTM) documented the return of two families to Al-Hudaidah Governorate, and also added 39 families in the Taiz and Marib governorates to the cumulative displacement records after completing the verification of their data.
