Local Authority in Aden Announces Suspension of Al-Mamdara Police Director and Confirms Ongoing Investigations

Yemen Monitor / Newsroom:

The local authority in the temporary capital, Aden, announced on Sunday the suspension of the Director of Al-Mamdara Police, marking the first official action taken in connection with the rape of a minor, a case that has sparked widespread public reaction.

In a statement, the local authority said it is following the ongoing investigations into the incident—which it described as “heinous”—with “great concern,” emphasizing that it is on full alert and giving the case top priority.

The statement added that the leadership of the local authority has directed security agencies and the Public Prosecution to detain all parties involved in the crime, as well as any accomplices or those negligent in their duties, alongside urgently pursuing anyone suspected of involvement.

It confirmed that investigations are continuing around the clock to identify the perpetrators and fully uncover the circumstances of the case.

The statement noted that the decision to suspend the Director of Al-Mamdara Police was made “to preserve the course of the investigations and ensure the integrity of their outcomes,” serving as the first practical step proportional to the severity of the incident.

The local authority urged citizens not to be led by rumors circulating on social media and unofficial platforms, warning of their potential impact on the investigation process and the pursuit of the truth.
