A Cyberattack Cuts Internet in Several Yemeni Governorates

Yemen Monitor / Newsroom:

Several Yemeni governorates experienced a sudden internet outage today, Monday, which lasted for about 20 minutes before service gradually resumed. However, 4G internet networks remain down for a number of users.

The outage occurred after a hacker group known as S4uD1Pwnz announced that it had carried out a cyberattack on the network of the state-owned telecom company “Yemen Net,” which is controlled by the Houthis. The group predicted that the attack’s impact would extend to other governorates.

It is worth noting that the same group claimed responsibility on July 24 for a widespread cyberattack that targeted internet servers in Houthi-controlled areas, causing service to stop in large parts of Sana’a. The group had also warned of subsequent attacks on the network.
