Yemen Monitor/Newsroom:
The Chairman of Yemen’s Presidential Leadership Council, Rashad Al-Alimi, has affirmed the state’s commitment to meeting the legitimate demands of Hadramout governorate’s people. This commitment is part of comprehensive national reforms and aims to enhance the governorate’s role as an effective partner in state-building, development, and peace.
The statement came during his meeting on Tuesday in the interim capital, Aden, with members of the Hadramout bloc in the Parliament who are currently in the country. The meeting was attended by the Deputy Chairman of the Council, Mohsen Basurra, and members of parliament, including Omar Al-Amoudi, Saleh Al-Amri, Mohammed bin Malik, Saeed Duman, Suleiman Al-Muhammadi, and Fouad Waqid.
On behalf of the Presidential Leadership Council and the government, Al-Alimi expressed his great appreciation for the people of Hadramout and their political and societal components. He praised their awareness, their dedication to the public interest, and their active contribution to national decision-making.
President Al-Alimi explained that meeting the service, development, and security demands of Hadramout’s people is a top priority for the state’s leadership. This includes developing the electricity sector, integrating Hadrami competencies into civil, military, and security state institutions in accordance with the law, and implementing vital projects that contribute to normalizing conditions and achieving stability.
He noted that these efforts are part of a responsible national commitment based on reference documents issued by the parliamentary bloc and Hadrami components. He emphasized that the state is keen to implement these demands where possible, according to clear programs and transparent mechanisms.
Al-Alimi called for a genuine partnership with Hadrami competencies and for strengthening the parliamentary bloc’s role in providing advice and contributing to oversight. This vision is based on integration and excludes marginalization and exclusion.
He also praised the developmental and humanitarian support provided by the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia and the United Arab Emirates to Hadramout and other governorates, affirming that this support is a crucial boost to government efforts.
At the conclusion of the meeting, the Chairman of the Leadership Council stressed the importance of de-escalation, coordination with all parties, and respecting the right to peaceful protest in a way that does not harm public or private property. He affirmed his confidence in the ability of Hadramout’s elites to continue supporting the armed forces and security and to preserve the governorate’s image as a model of security, stability, and the rule of law.
For days, Hadramout, the largest and most important Yemeni governorate rich in resources, has been witnessing escalating and angry protests following the worsening electricity crisis, which has led to daily power outages for most of the day, and the deterioration of living conditions and public services.
