Yemen Monitor/ Newsroom:
Yemen’s prominent poet and journalist, Fouad Al-Himyari, passed away this Friday morning in Istanbul, Turkey, at the age of 47. His death followed a long battle with kidney failure.
Al-Himyari, who served as Deputy Minister of Information in the National Accord Government, had recently been admitted to a Turkish hospital for treatment. However, his health unexpectedly deteriorated, leading to his passing.
Born in 1978 in the Shar’ab Al-Rawna district of Taiz Governorate, Al-Himyari was a leading figure in the February 11, 2011 revolution. He gained prominence as one of the most influential oratorical and media voices, embodying a revolutionary spirit against the regime of former President Ali Abdullah Saleh. Since then, he remained a symbol of struggle for many young revolutionaries.
Al-Himyari’s contributions extended beyond politics into the cultural and poetic spheres. He left a distinct mark on the Yemeni scene through his literary works and inspiring speeches, which resonated widely among youth and activists.
Yemeni political, cultural, and media figures have mourned his passing, praising his national journey and his media and revolutionary legacy. They expressed deep sorrow at the loss of “one of Yemen’s noblest voices,” praying for him to be granted vast mercy and to reside in paradise.
