IOM Reveals Shocking Displacement Figures in Yemen

The International Organization for Migration (IOM) has released a shocking report revealing the continued waves of forced displacement in Yemen, as the organization’s Rapid Displacement Tracking tool continues to monitor the movements of families forced to leave their homes or previous displacement sites.

The report covers the period from the beginning of the current year until May 3rd, and shows that the IOM’s Displacement Tracking Matrix (DTM) tracked 942 households, equivalent to 5,652 individuals, who experienced displacement at least once during this period.

In the last week of April and the beginning of May, specifically between April 27th and May 3rd, the DTM recorded the displacement of another 49 households, comprising 294 individuals.

The data indicates that the majority of these families headed towards specific governorates or moved within their borders, with Marib receiving the largest number at 22 households, distributed among Marib City and its districts, with most coming from Sana’a and Al Hudaidah.

Taiz Governorate followed with 16 households, concentrated in Jabal Habashi, Al Shamayateen, and Salah districts, with most arrivals also from Sana’a and Al Hudaidah.

Al Hudaidah witnessed the displacement of 11 households, concentrated in Al Khokha and Hays, with the majority of displacement cases being internal within the governorate itself.

As for the areas that witnessed the largest waves of displacement, Al Hudaidah Directorate was the main source of 18 displaced households, specifically from Al Jarrahi, Al Tuhayta, and Jabal Ra’s areas.

The Capital Secretariat ranked second, with 14 displaced households, mostly from the Al Wahdah, Azal, and Arhab districts.

Taiz Directorate witnessed the displacement of 3 households from the Maqbanah and Al Mawaset areas.

The IOM noted that it identified an additional 43 displaced households during the previous reporting period, which extended from April 20th to April 26th, distributed among Al Hudaidah, Marib, and Taiz, and these figures have been included in the cumulative total of displacement cases recorded since the beginning of the year.
