WHO: One Million Malaria Cases in Yemen in 2024
Yemen Monitor/ Sana’a/ Agencies:
The World Health Organization (WHO) announced on Monday that it has recorded more than one million suspected cases of malaria in Yemen since the beginning of 2024.
The UN agency stated, “The deterioration of sanitation services in Yemen has led to an increased risk of waterborne diseases. Stagnant water resulting from floods has created breeding grounds for mosquitoes, increasing the risk of malaria and dengue outbreaks.” – as reported by the German News Agency (DPA).
The organization revealed that since the beginning of 2024, Yemen has reported 1,051,287 suspected cases of malaria and 13,739 suspected cases of dengue fever.
The WHO highlighted that climatic, geographical, social, and economic factors have made the western coastal areas particularly vulnerable. Recent weather fluctuations, including rainfall, Contributed to the spread of infectious diseases, putting vulnerable communities at risk.

The situation in Yemen is of high concern and should be given more attention and care. I am sending my concern as an Omani citizen where Oman is a neighboring country to Yemen so what affects Yemen could eventually end to Oman especially to Dhofar governorate which share borders to Yemen. I work in Central Malaria Lab in Oman acting as In-charge of Central Malaria laboratory and QA and training and I offer my help to any matter related to fight Malaria in Yemen.
