In Response to Employee Protests: Yemeni Transport Minister Dismisses Rayan Airport Director and Appoints “Bawazir” for the Posittion

Yemeni Minister of Transport Mohsen Haidara Al-Amri issued a decision on Friday appointing Adel Ahmed Mohammed Bawazir as the new Director General of Rayan International Airport in Mukalla, the capital of Hadramawt in eastern Yemen, replacing former director Anis Basuwaitin.
According to the decision, the appointment comes as part of efforts to strengthen administrative performance and develop the aviation transport sector. Article Two of the decision grants him all benefits and entitlements associated with the position in accordance with applicable regulations.
The airport had witnessed protests demanding a change in management, which was accused of siding with the Southern Transitional Council during the takeover of Hadramawt in December 2025, in addition to allegations of corruption.
Last Sunday, employees of Rayan Airport announced that they would wear red armbands in protest against the authorities’ disregard of their demands to replace the administration, as well as the failure to fulfill previous promises made during protests in February.
