Joint Committee to Verify Fate of Prominent Politician Mohammed Qahtan Before Prisoner Exchange Deal Implementation

Yemen Monitor / Newsroom:
The official Yemeni news agency Saba reported on Thursday that the prisoner exchange agreement between the Yemeni government and the Houthis includes a special provision concerning prominent political leader Mohammed Qahtan, stipulating the formation of a joint committee from both sides to travel to Sanaa and verify his fate.
According to the agency, the committee will include representatives from Qahtan’s family, along with the participation of the International Committee of the Red Cross as a neutral mediator, in order to take the necessary steps before implementing the agreed prisoner release operation.
This development comes as part of a broader agreement announced by the Yemeni government’s negotiating delegation on detainee affairs, which provides for the release of around 1,750 detainees from various parties, including 27 members of the Arab Coalition forces, following months of negotiations between the two sides.
The agreement also stipulates the implementation of mutual visits to prisons and detention centers at a later stage after the completion of the prisoner release process.
