Yemen And China Sign Development Cooperation Agreement Worth 50 Million Yuan

The Yemeni government and China signed a development cooperation agreement on Tuesday, which includes a financial grant worth 50 million Chinese Yuan (approximately $6.9 million). The grant aims to support humanitarian and developmental projects in Yemen as part of enhancing bilateral cooperation between the two countries.

The agreement was signed on the Yemeni side by the Minister of Planning and International Cooperation, Afrah al-Zouba, and on the Chinese side by the Chargé d’Affaires of the Chinese Embassy to Yemen, Shao Zheng, according to the official Yemen News Agency.

According to the agreement, the Chinese grant will be allocated to fund humanitarian aid projects and development programs in accordance with the Yemeni government’s priorities and in coordination between the two parties.

Following the signing ceremony, Al-Zouba stated that the agreement represents support for the government’s efforts in facing humanitarian and developmental challenges, praising what she described as China’s supportive positions toward Yemen.

She added that the government seeks to expand its partnership with Beijing in the fields of sustainable development and economic recovery to meet the basic needs of the population.

Discussions between the two sides included priority areas for support, particularly in the water, electricity, education, and health sectors, with a focus on solar energy projects to operate water wells in Aden and supporting the infrastructure of electricity grids in the city and neighboring governorates.

The two parties also discussed training programs for Yemeni personnel in China and expanding cooperation with Chinese companies, especially in the sectors of agriculture, fisheries, and manufacturing.

For his part, the Chinese Chargé d’Affaires confirmed his country’s continued support for Yemen in the humanitarian and developmental fields, expressing Beijing’s desire to expand bilateral cooperation to serve the interests of both countries.
