UN Envoy Concludes Talks in Amman to De-escalate in Yemen

Yemen Monitor / Newsroom:
The Office of the Special Envoy of the Secretary-General for Yemen announced on Tuesday the conclusion of a new round of technical meetings in the Jordanian capital, Amman, which focused on strengthening security arrangements and discussing ways to achieve a ceasefire between the Yemeni parties.
According to a statement issued by the Envoy’s office, the meetings were held within the framework of the Military Coordination Committee on April 19 and 20. The gathering included committee representatives from Riyadh and Sana’a, serving as a follow-up to previous discussions held by the office with representatives of the Yemeni government and the Joint Forces Command.
During the round, participants discussed the situation on the ground, assessing the current military status in Yemen and the rapid developments in the region. They also explored practical mechanisms for protecting civilians and enhancing security through direct dialogue channels, as well as ways to transition from a fragile calm to a comprehensive and lasting ceasefire.
The statement noted that the meetings were characterized by an atmosphere of commitment from all parties, confirming the UN Envoy’s office intends to hold upcoming expanded meetings including the committee’s three delegations (the Yemeni government, the Houthi group, and the Joint Forces Command) to continue building upon what has been achieved.
