Two Brothers Injured by Houthi Drone Fire in Al-Bayda, Central Yemen

Yemen Monitor/ Newsroom:

Two citizens sustained various injuries yesterday, Friday, following an attack carried out by a drone belonging to the Houthi group, which targeted a gathering of civilians in Az Zahir District, Al-Bayda Governorate (central Yemen).

The Minister of Legal Affairs and Human Rights, Ishraq Al-Maqtari, stated in a post on the “X” platform that Houthi drones targeted the two brothers, “Abdulhakim and Salah Ahmed Junaid Al-Barmani,” during their routine work in a qat farm in “Al-Madbi” village, belonging to the Al Barman sub-district in Az Zahir Al Humiqan District.

Al-Maqtari quoted eyewitnesses confirming that the bombardment occurred just before Friday prayers (around 11:00 AM), as the drone dropped its explosive payload directly toward the Al-Barmani brothers, resulting in varying injuries. Consequently, they were immediately transferred to Al-Thawra General Hospital in Al-Bayda city to receive treatment.

The witnesses reported that the drone took off from Houthi group deployment positions in the mountains of the Al Barman villages, which border the frontlines with government forces in the Al Had District of Yafa’a.

In the same context, the command of the Al Had front in Yafa’a, which is affiliated with the Yemeni government, denied the movement of any drones from its side toward the villages of Al Humiqan on Friday, confirming that the source of the targeting was the Houthi side.

Minister Al-Maqtari pointed out that the residents of Az Zahir District have been paying a painful price in their lives and safety for years—specifically after 2020—due to the continuous, systematic Houthi bombardment and violence targeting their homes, farms, and roads, which compounds their daily humanitarian suffering.

Al-Maqtari directed harsh criticism at the UN Envoy and relevant UN mechanisms, stating that they “continue to ignore this continuous arrogance and violation by the Houthis, without taking an actual stance that criminalizes their actions against civilians.”
