Yemeni Journalists Syndicate Condemns the Detention of Journalist Hamoud Hazza and Demands Disclosure of His Whereabouts

Yemen Monitor / Newsroom:

The Yemeni Journalists Syndicate on Sunday condemned the detention of journalist Hamoud Hazza, who was taken from the “National Alignment” event in the city of Marib, and called on the security authorities to disclose his whereabouts and release him immediately.

In a statement, the syndicate said it had received reports from several journalists indicating that armed men took Hazza to an unknown location while he was attending the event. As of the time the statement was issued, neither his place of detention nor his fate was known.

The syndicate described the incident as “a serious violation of press freedom” and said it reflects a troubling escalation against media professionals. It stressed that any legal action involving journalists must be carried out in accordance with the law and in a manner that respects their rights and dignity.

The syndicate called on the security authorities in Marib Governorate to urgently disclose Hamoud Hazza’s whereabouts, clarify the circumstances surrounding his detention, and secure his immediate release if he is being held. It also demanded guarantees for his physical and psychological safety.

Furthermore, the syndicate urged all relevant authorities to respect press freedom, end arbitrary practices targeting journalists because of their professional work, and hold those responsible for the incident accountable in accordance with the law.

The incident comes amid ongoing calls from human rights and journalists’ organizations for greater protection of journalists and assurances that they can carry out their professional duties without harassment or intimidation.
