Saudi Arabia Pledges Withdrawal of “STC” Forces from Hadramawt and Al-Mahra

Major General Mohammed bin Obaid Al-Qahtani, head of the Saudi delegation, announced that forces affiliated with the Southern Transitional Council (STC) will withdraw from the governorates of Hadramawt and Al-Mahra. He confirmed that “Nation Shield” forces will take over the sites and camps as part of new security arrangements led by the Kingdom to enforce de-escalation and end manifestations of conflict in Yemen’s eastern governorates.

This announcement came during an expanded meeting between the delegation and a number of sheikhs, notables, and dignitaries from the Wadi and desert regions of Hadramawt, in the presence of the Governor of the governorate, Salem Al-Khanbashi.

Major General Al-Qahtani also affirmed the Kingdom’s steadfast stance towards Hadramawt, stressing that enforcing de-escalation and halting conflict represent the highest priority during the current stage. He indicated that the Coalition led by the Kingdom is working systematically to end the crisis and restore the situation to its previous state, ensuring the return of the foundations of stability.

He clarified that Hadramawt possesses qualified competencies to manage its affairs and resources, and that the next stage will witness an enhanced role for official state institutions in managing economic, security, and service-related files.

Al-Qahtani announced an agreement on a comprehensive matrix of measures to support security, stability, and the consolidation of de-escalation. This includes coordination with various local parties, including the STC, to ensure the smooth implementation of joint plans.

For his part, Governor Al-Khanbashi expressed his appreciation for the role undertaken by Saudi Arabia in supporting Hadramawt, confirming that the visit represents a “new pillar” in strengthening bonds of brotherhood and neighborliness.

He stated that the people of Hadramawt place great hopes on this visit for improving services, enhancing the economy, and consolidating security throughout the governorate.
